Three reasons to love our May book selections

This month, we had the honor of inviting a guest editor, Keelan Higgins, to select our May books. To our great pleasure, we’ve found a melting pot of genres from classics to fantasy among her selections. Best of all, Higgins effortlessly captured the mission of W.O.W. – rather than picking a dry list of predictable best-sellers, she tucks unique, lesser known titles between commercial successes and American classics. Below, find our top three reasons to fall in love with this month’s book list.

  1. Perspective – It’s rare to find a great book that exposes us to ideas and experiences that we’ve never confronted before. From race, to womanhood, to revolution, to love, to friendship – this month’s book’s promise to open the eyes and touch the hearts and minds of every avid reader.

  2. Empathy – Empathy is a difficult skill to teach. In an increasingly divisive world, it takes empathy to bring people together. Each of the May book selections invite readers to step into the shoes of another. But empathy is more than walking in another person’s shoes – it’s about understanding the human experience in more ways than your own – with an open mind, our May books promise to expand your notions of what it means to be ‘human.’

  3. Great writing – Many people would argue that great books require great writing. Anyone can tell a great story, but as illustrated by our May authors, a great writer employs unique techniques and style to construct the narrative that best conveys their story. While each writer’s style varies, readers will find themselves engrossed in the beauty and admiration we feel for a truly well-written piece of literary art.
